What is “A Place to Write”?
“A Place to Write” is a meeting place for writers young and old.  Writers have several different workshops and services to participate in year-round.  The writing center, conveniently located with free customer parking near downtown Honolulu (close to Ward and Kapiolani), provides writers with a safe place to read, reflect, write, discuss, and hone their craft.

Writing workshops help participants exercise their creative writing skills.  Groups are age-appropriate (Groms 10-14; Teens 15-18; Adults 18+) and have no more than ten participants (average 6-8 members).  Workshops are open to all forms of writing and are held over the course of two 2-hour sessions.  The first session focuses on reading, responding, reflecting, and writing.  The second session allows participants time to read each other’s work (from the first session) and offer constructive feedback.  All workshops are facilitated by Brenda, an experienced and enthusiastic reader, writer, and teacher.

Brenda also provides hour-long tutoring sessions and 15-minute reader remarks.  Each season, the writing center holds a lively (and voluntary) open mic night and a few age-appropriate book gatherings with fruitful, focused discussion.

The bottom line: “A Place to Write” strives to be a community for worldly, thoughtful, literary people.
